This local 25 megawatt project will replace energy now generated by dirty polluting fossil plants on Long Island and reduce harmful climate change emissions by roughly 29,000 tons per year. That’s good news for the climate, our environment, and public health for all Long Islanders.
The negative financial impact of a new subdivision will likely fall between $6 and $44 million. No matter what the exact number, though, the results are clear: a new subdivision will generate more costs that benefits. That creates pressure to further increase property taxes or slash school budgets. By contrast, Shoreham Solar Commons will generate between $12 and $16 million in new property tax-derived revenue, without imposing a new long-term cost burden on the community.
